[Roundup] Non-Idol Picks of Q1 2019

Milcboy – bootmilc

Fans of codomomental and their various Idol groups will likely have heard the name Milcboy at least in passing at this point. The somewhat eccentric singer-songwriter has been fairly quiet of late, with the release of her latest single “bootmilc” being the first new entry into her discography since debut album “Tokyo Nekodamashi” in March of 2018. “bootmilc” picks up right where the album left off though, with a selection of 4 tracks all in that distinct Milcboy style that you’ve probably heard a few elements of on other codomomental releases over the years. I’m talking about off-beat Indie Pop that makes creative use of some fairly typical instruments and time signatures to give you a sound that’s just a bit different while not being totally alien to the ears either. The only hangup I can see (or hear) might be with the vocals but if you listen to enough Idol music and codomomental in general then that shouldn’t be too much of a hurdle to overcome either. Really enjoyable and I hope we hear more from her before the year is out.
