[Roundup] Non-Idol Picks of Q1 2019

by Garry

Time for another terribly late Non-Idol Roundup.

Okay, so I’m pretty sure at some point (probably when I was apologizing for how late the last one of these was) I did say that I was going to try to get these things out in a slightly more timely manner. Well clearly I’ve failed to do that, in quite spectacular fashion as you can all see. What can I say, there’s a ton of Idol stuff I’ve been writing about this year and that is what this site’s main focus is so you know, priorities and all that. That being said, I am a little disappointed in myself that it’s July and I’m only now posting my Q1 Non-Idol picks.

What is this article about I hear you ask? Well, I’m not just into the whole Idol thing when it comes to Japanese music. I do actually like some more “normal” stuff, often featuring “real” musicians and what have you. I really slack on keeping up with stuff though as the Idol side of things does take up a lot of my time. So with the best of intentions I started this quarterly series to give me an excuse/reason to try to keep up with all of the other fantastic music that’s coming out of Japan. It hasn’t been going very well lately though, but I’m trying.

Basically this article is going to feature some of the releases that particularly caught my attention in the first 3 months of 2019. I’ll write a short paragraph about each of them to give you guys a taste of what to expect, link a music video if one is available and give you an affiliate link or two with which to buy a particular release if you find it interesting. There might be an Idol related thing or two in here but mostly it’s going to be bands, soloists and what have you from a pretty wide range of genres because I’ll give anything a shot really. The goal at the end of the day is just to share some cool music and hopefully you guys come away with something new to check out, that’d be neat.

I know this isn’t what a lot of people come to the site for, so if this isn’t your type of content I totally get it and you won’t hurt my feelings if you stop reading here. I’ve been posting a ton of Idol content in recent months so hopefully you’ll give me a pass on this and won’t hold it against me if I’m a bit self-indulgent for a week or two out of the year. All joking aside, if it’s just Idol stuff you want come back in a day or two and I’m sure I’ll have something that’s a bit more to your tastes and interests…hopefully.

For everyone else, please enjoy the article. Give as many of these releases a listen as possible and hey, maybe tell me which of them you liked or even what your own personal favorites were from January through March. I’ll stop rambling now though and let you get to checking out the article. Hope you find something cool to listen to by the end of it.
