Sometimes YouTube does a pretty good job of recommending videos, not often but occasionally. It spat out the music video for SEEN SHEEP SKIN’s “Lapis Lazuli” and I’m glad it did. I instantly connected with the Indie Rock style instrumental with its mild Funk tones which paired very well with the vocals which dance a fine line between playful and having a bit of an attitude behind them. From there I checked out the FAKE FUR mini-album and while there is certainly an Indie Rock thread that ties each of its 5 tracks together, each one brings something a little bit different to the table. There’s a touch of Shoegaze, Dream Pop and a little bit of a Ballad too but no matter the style it’s hard not to be impressed with the songwriting and the instrumental compositions. Besides from the aforementioned “Lapis Lazuli”, personal highlights from this release also include “Hikari wa dotchida” and “Howling Girl” though honestly the entire mini-album is quite excellent. If it wasn’t then why would I be featuring it here and telling you all to go listen to it?
