I actually wrote about SHADOWS in the first installment of this series. They had just put out their first single “Chain Reaction”, which is featured on this, their first album “Illuminate”. Also featured are a number of songs from their “Progress” EP such as the excellent “Bek” and “Progress”. For those of you who don’t know, SHADOWS are a…Melodic Hardcore (I guess?) band formed from the ashes of FACT, who were one of my favorite Japanese bands ever. SHADOWS carry on with a similar sound, which probably explains why “Illuminate” is my favorite Japanese music release of 2017 so far. Seriously, I can’t stop playing the damn album it’s that good.
