2019 was the year where I made a conscious effort to pay just a little bit more attention to the music being released in the scene from artists I’m less familiar with. One of those is Kanou Emiri, but when I saw her debut album “GREENPOP” plastered all over various record stores while on a trip to Tokyo last year I just knew that I had to see what all of the fuss was about. Turns out the soloist is very adept at blending genres like 80s New Wave, Techno and Indie Rock to create an album with a very strong retro vibe to it. There’s also a little bit of room for some experimentation along the way with some rather interesting results being achieved. If a slightly eccentric take on all things 80s sounds like a good time to you then I have no reservations about recommending this album. A year or two ago I would have passed this one up without so much as a second glance, I’m glad that wasn’t the case in 2019. Full Review
