Maison book girl capped of their 2018 with the release of “yume”, one of the best examples of an Idol concept album we’ve seen and might ever see. For 2019 they decided to be a little less ambitious with the release of their latest album “Umi to Uchu no Kodomotachi”, but it’s no less compelling. Sure there isn’t some crazy conceptual backbone to the album’s collection of tracks but it’s another very creative and colorful outing from the group. I feel like there’s a perception that the group’s music has a high barrier to entry and that can’t be further from the truth, especially in recent years. They’ve definitely been taking steps towards making their songs more accessible, while still retaining enough of all of the things that make the group unique. If you’ve been intimidated by the complexity of some of the group’s releases in the past then in my opinion this album would be the perfect starting point for anyone looking to dip their toe into Maison book girl’s diverse catalog of music.
