Interesting music is often produced from unexpected sources and 16 year old Sakaguchi Ami from Osaka is a pretty unexpected source. Wow, I’m ageist right? “Jyoshi” is her first single since being snapped up by Sony Music Japan so I must not be alone in thinking that her idea of singer-songwriter meets drum machine is pretty novel and interesting. It definitely sets her apart from other artists in the singer-songwriter realm and her voice is also ridiculously good for a 16 year old. She even manages to pull it off live, as demonstrated on the two live tracks included on this release. I’m not saying that this single is Sakaguchi Ami showing off, but as far as first impression go this is a really good one and I definitely want to hear more from her.
