Indie Rock and 3-piece girl bands am I right? That’s pretty much what SHISHAMO are and it’s a bit of a theme of this quarter’s picks. “BYE BYE” is the band’s sixth single and the a-side is this really funky, jazz influenced number that I’m sure you’re all sick to death of me waxing poetic about by now. Of course SHISHAMO put their stamp on it with a shot in the arm of more modern sounding Indie Rock for an interesting blend of genres. The b-side “Egao no Omajinai” on the other hand is a straight up Indie Rock tune that while it doesn’t really break new ground is still a very enjoyable listening experience. I’m definitely going to go back and listen to SHISHAMO’s rather extensive back catalog which is mainly made up of their five previously released albums. I’m sure there’s plenty of gems for me to unearth if this single is anything to go by.
