JYOCHO – Kirei na Sankaku, Asahi Ningen

Its been a while, but JYOCHO finally make a return to these roundups with their latest EP “Kirei na Sankaku, Asahi Ningen”. The Kyoto 5-piece are definitely one of the more “out there” groups I’ve ever featured as far as musical content is concerned, incorporating a whole host of elements from genres like Progressive Rock, Math Rock, regular J-Pop and a whole lot more into their sound. This 4 track release is to the surprise of no one, no different in that regard. Oh yeah, did I mention the band has a flute player in it? It certainly makes for an interesting and refreshing take on the usual Progressive and Math Rock styles, as heard on the EP’s title track, however if it’s all a bit too chaotic sounding for you then softer, more conventionally melodic numbers like “Tōmawari no Idea” might be more your thing. A little difficult to wrap your brain around initially, but plenty of interesting concepts to chew on here while you do.
