vivid undress are a band that I’ve heard the name of in passing but never really thought to check out any of their music before now. Well, if it’s all as good as the group’s major label debut album “Konzai New Wave” then I think I probably have some catching up to do. Their sound can be very loosely described as Pop Rock, but they try to not let labels put a limit on what they’re doing creatively. From the highly technical to the straightforwardly simplistic, there are many layers to explore on this release. Examples of this can be heard up and down the album from “Conquistador no genjitsu tōsō”‘s upbeat Indie Rock flair to the Jazz tinged Piano Rock of “Chocolate Syndrome” or the heavily 80s influenced “HOT”. It’s a diverse collection of songs all threaded and held nicely together by lead singer kiila’s very distinct vocal tones.
