Passepied were one of the first bands I started to get into after I started to realize that Japanese music didn’t start and end with 48G, Dir en Grey and Visual Kei bands. Their 2013 album “Enshutsu-ka Shutsuen” also served as an entry point for my current appreciation of the piano as a musical instrument. “&DNA” is still the familiar Passepied sound with Ogoda Natsuki’s high pitched vocals but you do get the sense that things have matured a little over the years. I haven’t really been keeping up with Passepied as much as I should over the past year or so but it’s nice to have some idea of what to expect when I do come back to them from time to time.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that “&DNA” is my favorite Passepied album but there’s a lot of really enjoyable music on offer here. Assuming you’re into Pop Rock with a bunch of keyboards and synthesizers mixed in. Personal highlights for me include “Nagasugita Haru”, “DISTANCE” and “Last Dance”. I don’t think anything is going to top “Enshutsu-ka Shutsuen” for me though.
