2019 was a rollercoaster for BURST GIRL, with the group reaching new heights both in terms of musical output as well as touring on a national level domestically. It wasn’t all good news though, with leader Rei stepping down in September to focus on her new band Knuckle Chiwawa. The group’s “RIOT” mini-album while not technically the last release to feature her vocals is likely to be the most enduring. It features several fan favorites that get the studio treatment for the first time ever, along with a couple of newer ones that somewhat hinted at the future direction of the group in hindsight. A fitting way to close out the Rei era of BURST GIRL, collecting pretty much all of the group’s material that hadn’t been formally released up to that point. No matter your opinion of the current iteration of BURST GIRL I think we can all agree that Rei went out on a high note here. Full Review
