I feel like I tend to repeat myself a lot with these roundups, but when an artist as talented as majiko keeps releasing great music then I’m going to keep talking about her here. “MAJIGEN” is the soloist’s fourth mini-album, featuring 6 tracks and follows up the excellent “Sabishii Hito ga Ichiban Erainda” album that was released last summer. Lead track “Grimm” is anything but, featuring an upbeat fantastical Rock instrumental upon which the singer weaves a fairytale and second track “Escargot” is the Jazz Rock song that you didn’t know you needed until right now. Also a highlight is the smooth, free flowing closer “Samsara” but honestly no matter where you scroll to and press play on this release you’re going to be treated to technically excellent instrumentation along with majiko’s undeniable vocal prowess. A pleasure to listen to as always, and I doubt that’s going to change anytime soon here.
