Envy – The Fallen Crimson

My history with Envy is a fairly long one, having discovered the band through their split record with post-hardcore band Thursday about 12 year ago now. They’ve had a fairly rough go of things through the years but the band’s new album “The Fallen Crimson” is a testament to where they came from, who they are today and where they’re going in the future. Opening with “Statement of Freedom” featuring their iconic Melodic Thrash sound, then taking us to a calmer more introspective place on the stunningly beautiful “HIKARI” before the band complete their transformation into the Post Rock juggernauts that they’re known as today on “Dawn and Gaze”. The album then leaves off on “A Step in the Morning Glow” which perfectly encapsulates both the past and present while perhaps also offering us a glimpse into what the future holds for one of Japan’s most influential exports. Absolutely immense both sonically as well as emotionally.
