As I mentioned in a previous round-up, I used to be pretty into DIR EN GREY in my younger, teenage years. I lost touch with them for quite some time but recently started getting back into them with their album “The Insulated World” which came out last year. “The World of Mercy” sees the 5-piece pick back up right where they left off with an epic, both in terms of feel and length, new single that you definitely have to be in the mood for but if you are then it’s a fantastic example of long-form songwriting. B-sides include an acoustic version of classic song “DOZING GREEN” and live audio of the band performing “GRIEF” from their April 16th performance at Shinkiba Studio Coast. While I generally prefer singles to have as much new material as possible I rather liked the selection of different formats we got here and well, the a-side is 10 minutes long after all. Almost 23 years together and they’re still going strong.
