Although her newly adopted stage name might not sound too familiar to all of you, I have actually featured mekakushe in these roundups before. Back then she was going by “Hirone-chan” but the singer-songwriter was recently picked up by codomomental of all people and her “heavenly” mini-album is the first new release from her since that occurred. Despite all of that, the music remains true to form with acoustic guitar both being paired with various beats, synth loops and more to create some unique and at times quite relaxing songs and also standing alone for more traditional singer-songwriter style material. The constant throughout though are Hirone’s soft, dreamy vocals which often seem to float on by as the instrumentals do their thing. Start here with tracks like “Shiawase Gokko” and “Cider” before diving headfirst into this solo artist’s back catalog, it’s quite extensive at this point.
