swimews – goodbye, my youthful flowers

I’m usually pretty late to the party when it comes to discovering new bands, but with Tokyo-based Shoegaze/Punk trio swimews I’m positively early. Perhaps I’m getting better at this paying attention thing, or maybe I just got lucky…perhaps both! Having just formed in June of this year they’ve already released their first EP “goodbye, my youthful flowers” featuring 4 tracks of dreamy Shoegaze goodness with just a hint of a Punk edge making itself known every so often. Vocalist (and former Miss iD contestant) Sakurai Rina’s bright melodic vocals are perfectly offset by the fuzzier, overdriven guitars that feature on several songs on the EP with “The Girl in the Flammable Skirts” being a personal favorite of mine and “sleep in your spring” being a close second. If you like Shoegaze, Dream Pop or any of their related genres then this is definitely a band to keep an eye on as they continue to develop.
