Sometimes when I’m looking for new music I just click on something on a whim without really knowing what to expect. That’s what happened with “Iroiro, Arisugiru” the first album from soloist Sonouchi Yarune and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. If you try to look up information on the singer things are kept intentionally vague and…quirky which given the musical content of this CD makes a lot of sense. From energetic Rock songs like “Hashiridase Bonjin” to the almost overly playful Pop tunes like “Idol Gossip Masters” this album really covers all of the bases and even manages a Ballad or two like “Hitorigoto” along the way as well. The variety and creativity on show here is refreshing as it is creative. An incredibly enjoyable release but it’s also rather abstract and hard to pin down, a bit like the artist behind it.
