As some of you might know, I’ve been on a pretty big Kinoco Hotel kick as of late and as I learn more about that particular band the internet has been providing me with some further listening. Currently that has taken the form of TOKYO KILLER, the instrumental Rock band fronted by the group’s guitarist Keme. “Boom Go!!” is the second album from what is essentially a “super group” with former GO!GO!7188 bassist Akko and keyboardist Yachimura Kei and drummer Kagiyama Kyoichi of Urbangarde fame filling out the line-up. American Rock band The Ventures heavily influenced several of the band’s members and Surf Rock features at the core of their sound. From there each put their own personality into the songs with fuzzed guitar, psychedelic keyboards and such featuring heavily. The album consists of new and existing songs, including a couple of covers. Personal highlights for me personally being “Hayabusa”, “Cult Queen” and “Sakura Island”. Would I love there to be vocals? Sure, but the quickly jammed out nature of these tracks and my growing appreciation for this style of music are more than enough to keep me both interested and entertained.
