[Top 10] Album Releases of 2018

Aww yeah, it’s rewi…Top 10 Albums time!

Alright you lot, you know what this is. Well, hopefully you do anyway. I realize that I’m going against the trend of some other sites in posting my 2018 Top 10 lists in January 2019, after 2018 is actually over but you know I don’t like to play by the rules. There was also some stuff that came out in December that I definitely wanted to check out before locking in my top Idol picks from the last 12 months. If for some reason you’ve been waiting for me to validate your taste in Japanese Idol music then you may now wait no longer.

This week I’m going to share my Top 10 Idol Albums of 2018 (check out my non-album list here). There was a ton of albums released in the last 12 months so narrowing it down to a final 10 was kinda challenging. To clarify what I’m classing as an album, it’s pretty much anything that was marketed as an album by the artists involved or just plain common sense. Don’t like how I classified something or think I missed an important release? Feel free to make your own lists and leave them in the comments. This is my personal list so I don’t really have to care if people disagree or if they don’t think it represents the Western fandom’s interests. What a headache that would be, right?

So I thought about how to lay these picks out quite a bit but in the end I settled for the straightforward, tried and true 10 to 1 ranking. Don’t place too much importance on what ranked above whatever, there’s a few picks here that could easily move up or down a spot or two based on how I feel on any given day. I’d say #1 is pretty solidly my Album of the Year but if it made the list I obviously thought highly of it and if for some reason you care for my opinion then I hope you’ll check out the releases featured that you might not have gotten around to yet.

Apart from that, the only other personal limitations I put on this list is that it can only feature one release per group…which isn’t a big deal with it comes to albums but I like variety wherever possible. There’s also a small honorable mentions section at the end for the album I liked but didn’t like quite enough for them to make the list. With all that nonsense out of the way…YEAR REVIEW!
