SpecialThanks are a band that probably don’t need much introduction for most people into Japanese Rock music, but if the Aichi Pop-Punk 3-piece are a new discovery to you then boy do you have a lot of back catalog to explore. “HEART LIGHT” is the band’s latest mini-album and even 13 years into their career they’re still producing some great tunes. As a fan of Pop-Punk no matter what language it’s being sung in, of course this 5 track release is going to be right up my street. I can also recommend SpecialThanks to people who might not be into the whole “singing in a different language” thing because pretty much all of their music up to 2015 was sung in English. I don’t like to use the term “gateway band” because it always feels to me like you’re cheapening what you’re referring to but if you’re trying to get your friend into this whole Japanese music thing then I could think of worse places to start than with SpecialThanks.
