If you read the last roundup then you’ll know that I’m a recently returning lapsed DIR EN GREY fan who is slowly dipping his toe back into the band’s unique world after losing touch with them several years ago. The release of the band’s 10th album “The Insulated World” could hardly have come at a better time for someone like me, sporting 13 tracks of which 11 are brand new…although pretty much anything from the past few years is still brand new to me right now. Featuring the band’s tried and true brand of heavily distorted, and often very deranged sounding Rock music, I find the album to be a highly enjoyable listen and very easy to digest. I’m personally more of a fan of the more melodic tracks like “Utafumi” or maybe “Followers” but the album still packs as much punch and mad genius as any of the bands previous releases. Not bad considering they’ve been at it for over 20 years now.
