Tokyo based quintet CRCK/LCKS have featured in these roundups before, although it has been about a year since the release of their last EP. Perhaps unsurprising considering all of the band members are session musicians working on other projects the majority of the time. Still, when they get together as CRCK/LCKS they end up producing some great music which draws from a range of styles including Jazz, Lounge, Soul and even Classical. “Double Rift” is a continuation of that trend, with vocalist Oda Tomomi producing some wonderful performances while being backed by a range of different instrumental styles. From the quirkiness of “O.K.” to the floaty Jazz Ballad that is “Tatoe Basa” there’s definitely a lot of interesting stuff going on in this NINE TRACK EP. Ahem, my apologies.
