[Review] WORL’S END – Bremen

by Garry

My thoughts on “Bremen”, yet another new digital single from WORL’S END.

Release Date: April 12th 2021

Tracklist

1. Dreaming・Dreaming

Given the sheer number of groups who are now not only releasing most of their singles digitally but now multiple times per week/month/quarter, I do have to be a bit more selective when it comes to what sort of stuff I not only have time to listen to but also write about on the site. Typically I’ll opt for the songs that are the most interesting to me or that feel like I have something I want to say about. So chances are if a group keeps cropping up then there’s something about them that makes that the case.

WORL’S END are a group that I’ve written about a couple of times of late, after I decided to give the group shot when I heard that they were starting a fresh chapter in their history. So far I’ve checked out both “Scarlet” as well as “Dreaming・Dreaming” and I’m glad that I did because those are two pretty solid tracks if you’re into Rock music mixed with a bit of J-Pop. Not a groundbreaking concept by any means, but WORL’S END execute it very well and to rather entertaining results.

Today we have “Bremen” to listen to and talk a bit about. To me it’s a city in Germany but for WORL’S END it’s the name of the third digital single since their soft-relaunch a couple of months back now. The cover is a bit out there and fanciful so perhaps the music might follow a similar theme, I know better than to judge those sorts of things blindly at this point though but there’s a bit of intrigue here for me and you need a bit of that when you’re trying to get people to check out your group and music. So far so good then, now let’s take a listen and see what we’re really working with on this one.

While not quite reaching “fanciful” status, the opening instrumental on “Bremen” does color a little bit outside the lines with a mathy, Rock style that’s coming at you with a very quick tempo and a little bit fuzz for some added warmth. It empties out considerably when the first verse comes in though, leaning a bit more bass heavy but still with the same fast pace and pleasing amount of fuzz introduced at the start of the track. The strong, Rock style vocal that features on many WORL’S END songs is prominent on this too and it’s complimented by the instrumental very well here both in terms of tone and impact. It all ebbs and flows in this general manner for a bit, through the first couple of choruses which conversely are quite bright and melodic with some some catchy vocal hooks too for good measure.

This is all just setting up for the back half of the track though where we’re taken on this pretty cool journey as everything builds nicely towards a very passionate and mildly frantic crescendo. Along the way we’re treated to a pretty slick guitar solo which definitely deserves a mention here as it adds even more color to an already very memorable piece of music and the vocals settle into a happy medium between the two main styles that you hear early on. Hard to really find much to fault with this one I must say, just a great song in a very appealing style.

So that’s 3 tracks from WORL’S END that I’ve written about on the site now and I’ve found myself enjoying every one of them. They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel musically, that much is true, but when it comes to Rock blended with a bit of Idol Pop you really can’t go wrong if you decide to check this or a lot of the group’s other material out. They do what they do, they do it very well and it’s pretty fun to throw these tracks on and listen to them. What’s not to like?

I’ll continue to keep tabs on WORL’S END and you can expect more reviews too if any future releases of theirs seem interesting to me. They’re not a group I’m ever likely to be super obsessed with or anything like that but I definitely appreciate what they’re putting out there and in times like these the scene needs as much quality music and performing talent as it can get and there’s no question that this is exactly what WORL’S END are providing. Check them out, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you do.
