POP, formerly known as Pla2me, is a group featuring Kamiya Saki of BiS fame. Whenever BiS is involved, you can be sure that craziness is just around the corner, along with a pretty decent potential for awesome music. This PV meets at least one of those criteria.
The video portion of this PV is pretty odd and random, as expected. The PV largely features the members in full-black body suits spelling out random kanji characters with their bodies. Sadly, I’m not qualified to really tell you what it all means, so I’m not going to pretend like I know what I’m talking about there. What I can tell you is these shots and the accompanying graphics make up a majority of the PV. It’s kind of a bummer, because it’s honestly not that interesting.
The only saving grace is the song isn’t that long. There’s some funny shots in here, and some of the random CGI reminds me of those ridiculous animutation flash movies of the very early 2000’s, but other than that it’s kinda uneventful. There are a few, VERY brief shots of the members in their more idol-esque outfits, but if you blink you might literally miss some of them. In the end, this PV makes you think you are tripping hard on something. Sounds like BiS alumni at work to me.
Song-wise, things are much better. This sounds like something BiS might do. Makes sense, huh? The vocals are all very nice and the rock style of the song is pretty cool. The middle of the song especially hooks me in very well. It almost sounds a little PASSPO-like. It’s a really nice pop-rock song that would survive well in playlist rotation. Good stuff. As a PV, though… I dunno that I’m hip enough for this one.
POP’s 2nd single drops March 15th.
