Kobushi Factory is still a pretty new group, but you wouldn’t know this by watching them. These girls are already a solid group of performers with great dance moves and impressive, powerful vocals. Their “Best New Artist” win at The 57th Japan Record Awards 2015 was more than deserved.
This PV is a bit typical Hello! Project in setting, and might be boring if it weren’t beautifully presented. One has to wonder exactly where this Hello! Project hangar we’ve often seen is. The set pieces are very open and largely white. Luckily, this doesn’t matter too much because the shots are changing constantly enough to stay interesting, but not often enough to cause a headache. The clean, Mirror’s Edge-like environment is also obstructed by a group of girls dancing their asses off. There are very few moments in this video where any of the girls are idle.
The video also features quite a few very nice solo staring shots of each member. Again, nothing revolutionary but it’s so gorgeously done. The only outfits in the PV are these simple, but cute black-on-white seifuku-ish ones that compliment the environment nicely. They’re pleasant, but don’t really stand out. I think it works for the PV.
Song-wise, this PV is even stronger. As I said, this group has some really impressive vocalists in it, and the song features quite a bit of Inoue Rei belting it out. Between how cute she is and how much I love her voice, she has definitely become my bias of this group, and she shines here. The parts with her and Hamaura Ayano were pretty awesome. The instrumentals definitely feel like typical H!P but have a really good kick to them.
I think it’s a bit too early to call it typical Kobushi Factory, but this does seem to be the kind of sound they’re going for and it works quite well. A really fun song to listen to.
Kobushi Factory’s third single drops February 17th.
